An Australian ETA visa or the Electronic Travel Authority is for people who want to make a short trip into Australia for holidays, tourism, recreation and informal studies. It is usually valid for up to 12 months from date of granting and allows the holder to stay up to three months per visit to Australia.

A similar Australian visa that is also very popular is the eVisitor visa. This allows the holder to travel to Australia for business or tourism purposes for up to three months. Tourism may mean holidays, recreation and seeing family and friends while business could mean attending conferences, negotiations or for an exploratory business visit.

The Australian ETA visa and the eVisitor visa works similarly, in that it is one of the most convenient ways to travel to Australia. Both the ETA visa and the eVisitor visa let you skip long lines and difficult visa processing, since you don't need to visit a departmental office to gain one. It also follows similar usage rules. Both the ETA and the eVisitor visas are dependent on the passport you used when lodging the application. Meanwhile, the eVisitor visa is for passport holder from the European Union and a number of other European countries. These include the following countries: Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Republic of San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK and Vatican City.
