How To Have A Green Career
Everyone has heard of white collar and blue collar jobs, however there is a growing new classification: green collar. That is right, green collar jobs are an increasing sector of the workforce and one that has a number of positive attributes.
Not only do green jobs have good wages but they are local, which assures they cannot be sent overseas to workers on another continent. In addition to being fruitful and stable, they are also helpful for the environment and future of the Earth.
With a new bill signed into law February 2009 that dedicated $36.5 billion in energy efficiency and almost $8 billion into renewable energy, there is a huge demand for a skilled workforce for green jobs. Among the funding in the bill were $5 billion to weatherize the homes of one million low-income families, $6.3 billion for energy-related grants to states, $4.5 billion to retrofit federal buildings, and $11 billion for the modernization of the nation's electric grid. With green energy being a top priority in the current administration, it is likely that this funding will continue in coming years.
As these funds begin to funnel ...
... into the economy, a wealth of new jobs will emerge. However, in order for most people to acquire one of these jobs they are going to need some extra training. A Building Analyst Professional course can equip you with the skills needed to obtain a green job.
Fortunately, the Federal Government has made green jobs such a priority, they are offering money for training. The Department of Labor has $750 million to provide competitive grants for workers training in high growth and emerging industries, with $500 million of that amount directed at careers in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Additionally, the stimulus bill has provided $16.8 billion for energy efficient and renewable energy project with $2.5 billion being applied for research, development, demonstration and deployment of advanced energy technologies.
In addition to Federal dollars funneling into green jobs, a central Texas task force has an initiative to train up to 25,000 Central Texas residents for green jobs. There are 12 different categories of jobs that could possibly grow from the green industry, including: Grid Design and Modeling, Network and Communication Engineers, Professional Engineers - Large Scale industrial PV, Design and Layout Technicians, Solar Technicians, Solar Installers, Electric Grid Technicians, Mechanics and Technicians, Journeyman Trades Skills, Accredited Trainers, Certified Energy Auditors and Inspectors, Sustainability Managers, Solar Manufacturing, and Sales and Distribution.
Taking advantage of these opportunities requires training as a supplement to your skills. The Building Performance Institute Curriculum and Testing at Green Energy Audit Certification is a Nationally Recognized Certification Program that can take your career to the next level. Their curriculum exceeds the basic requirements for Austin's Energy Conservation Ordinance, and provides nationally recognized Building Analyst Professional Training.
