The One Step You Need For Success
You may have seen the film "The Bucket List" in which two terminally ill cancer patients meet in a hospital and write a list of all the things they want to do before they finally kick the proverbial bucket. The pair begins an around-the-world vacation, and starts crossing off items from their list including race car driving, skydiving, climbing the Pyramids, and going on a lion safari in Africa.
By the end of the movie, the last item is crossed off the list, posthumously. But how did the pair manage to achieve all of these goals? And before you say "because it's a movie", the real answer is because they wrote them down.
Now, you don't need a death sentence to give you the reason to set goals, any epiphany will do. You just need to realise that to achieve the dream life you want, you need to set goals now and write them down.
The single most important step for achieving goals is to write it down, write it down, and write it down. If you can't write it down, you just can't do it.
Think about your day to day life. Every day you most likely compile lists of things to do to run your household, do your ...
... job, plan your business trip or plan your family holiday. But how many times do you write down exactly what you want out of life?
How many long term or short term goals have you written down?
So, take some time now to reflect on what you want to achieve in your lifetime. Concentrate on specific words and concepts that relate to your life goals. Give those words and ideas your full attention as you write them down.
Written words are symbols of things, concepts and emotions, and the physical process of writing these words onto a page actually creates a subconscious connection. When you use language to communicate on paper, you first process the information on a subconscious level.
So why not take advantage of the power of your subconscious mind to achieve your goals by writing them down in a day planner, even on a post-it-note? And put your written down goals somewhere you'll see them often. Every time you write down your goals, your mind is progressing towards them. The goals become clearer.
Write your goals down everywhere, anywhere and as many times as necessary until you really believe in your goal. And as you write them down think about the movie "The Bucket List" and appreciate what you can achieve now that you are writing goals for the rest of your life, and not just the end of it.
And with 100 days to go until the end of 2009, what better time than today to write down your goals and make this year count.
