After the death friends and family of the deceased person along with a priest prepares the body and a procession the ground where the body would be cremated or burnt. Hindu rituals and customs are followed. At the burial site, mainly the male mourners are present and the eldest son takes charge of the final rite of lighting the pyre. After the cremation, the ashes are collected in an urn and immersed in a holy river.
This is followed by other rituals till the soul rests in peace.
