When a mixture consisting of MnO2, Fe2O3 as well as coke of high content carbon and coal is heated in a system of blast furnace we get an alloy called Ferro Manganese, which has manganese in high percentage. Ferro Manganese has two variants. The first variant is called High Carbon Ferro Manganese which contains carbon in high percentage. When mixing of manganese ore reduction with coal of high content carbon and constituents forming slag takes place at high temperature in a furnace, this alloy is produced. It is greatly used in the production of stainless steel of high quality because of its high content of carbon. It is excellent as an anti-oxidant, can resist heat and has high content of carbon. The second variant is called Medium Carbon Ferro Manganese which has medium content of carbon. This variant is produced when manganese ore is smelted in blast furnace with coke or coal containing medium content of carbon. Apart from steel industry this alloy is also used in metallurgy, chemical industry and in industry producing cast iron.
