If you are travelling to a country for the purpose of studying, working, opening a business or even migrating with a family, you will need to submit a certain set of documents for the passport or the visa process. Mandatory Requirements
If you are travelling abroad for education or employment purposes, there are several institutes who require these documents as a mandatory requirement when you apply to them. Therefore if you are applying to an educational institute, you will be required to submit your school certificates and college certificates. Proven Authenticity
As part of the Document Scanning Service and Document Attestation Process that is undergone for most of the documents, it has to be stamped with a seal it its universally accepted. Certain institutes like the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Attestation, State Attestation which include the Home Department or Education Department and the Diplomatic Mission Attestation which include the Embassies or High Commissions or Consulates have the power to prove these documents as genuine. One known form of authenticity is the Apostille stamp.

A number of countries have joined a treat known as the Hague Convention of October 1961, which abolished the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. As part of the treaty, it simplifies the document attestation process of authenticating public documents that can be used abroad. Commonly known as the Apostille Convention, this treaty reduces the document authentication process to a single procedure, where the issuance of an authentication certificate by the designated authority in the country where the document was issued. With this treaty the circulation of public documents amongst the countries that are part of the convention has proved to be very beneficial.

If you wish to undergo the document attestation route, you must first check the necessary document requirements and then collect the documents. You will then either have to scan them, through the Document Scanning Service, which most institutes have and get them attested as per the Document Attestation procedure. Once this process has been done, you can send your documents to these institutes and have them attested.
