Summer is always one of the most opportune times to hit the beach with family and friends. If you’re living in the tropics, the beach activities will even include surfing the waves. Getting there requires bringing a surfboard along, but you will have to tie them atop the car, mostly by using polypropylene strapping rolls.

Impressive Rack

Installing a strong roof rack is often the first step to securing the boards on the vehicle. Go for the high-quality models; your friends can recommend some noteworthy brands. When putting up the rack, make sure everything is screwed on tight. Do not stow anything on loose screws for the forces acting on it can bump everything off the vehicle.

The metal on the crossbars can also be a point of concern for surfers who want their boards to shine; it will be a terrible sight to see streaks of metal on the finish. As such, wrap the rack bars in thick padding to cushion the board’s potential contact surfaces. The padding can be made from special surf pad products, foam ...
... tubing, or tightly-wrapped blankets that are adequately locked in.

Fitting In

Line up the surfboard over the center of the car and the racks. Some expert surfers recommend putting the board with the fins pointing up and forward, to stop the buffeting that can lift up the board. Start rolling out the poly strapping and begin wrapping it up over the board. A tip to securely locking the board is to run the strapping over it twice and bounding the board to the crossbar. Use a tensioner to further adjust the strapping, but not too tight as for it to damage the board itself. A buckle to lock down the board should be seen on top; any excess strapping should be cut after the buckle is secure.

Before heading off, test the board with some shakes to verify that it is secure and tight. Take off the leashes as well. Travel leisurely if you can; do not speed up as it can exacerbate the forces.

A surfboard will satisfy your needs for some wave-cresting action, especially when you’re not cutting into anybody’s wave. The key to that, of course, is to make sure your board reaches the beach intact through strong plastic strapping.
