As per the legend, Brihaspati or the Lord Guru asked Indra god to vanish all the demons to protect everyone. At the time of a war when Indra was at the verge of losing the battle with demons, Guru brihaspti and Indrani (his wife) tied a sacred thread around his wrist on Shravan Poonima day, after which he emerged victorious in the war. Therefore, raksha bandhan is celebrated on the Shravan Purnima day every year. It mostly falls into the month of August and is celebrated with fun and enjoyment.
There was also one more such story related to Rakhi, when during Mahabharata Draupati’s sari and wrapped it around the bleeding finger of Lord Krishna while he got hurt in the battlefield. Lord Krishna was deeply touched with this gesture and made drraupati his sister. He saved her pride at the time of Chir Haran at the court of King Dhritrastra when the pandavan lost her in the gambling with Karavas.
