What Is A Content Management System?
A content management system is an application that enables deleting, organizing, modifying, editing, and publishing content. It is also possible to assure the content maintenance from a principal interface.
The content management system offers operations to manage e commerce and other workflow in a friendly environment. Many use this system to run a website domain containing shopping, news and blogs.
Even an enterprise website builder can use this application. The principal objective of this program is to avoid the hand coding need. However, it can support it for entire page or particular elements. The principal use and function of this program is to organize and store file, and offer version-controlled access to their information.
The features of this application vary largely. Simple programs highlight numerous features while other application such as enterprise CMS provide more powerful and complex features. Most systems include retrieval, search, indexing, revision control, format management, and Web-based publishing.
The Web-based publishing enables individuals to use a group of approved templates ...
... and other programs to modify or create web content. The format management allows the user to format electronic and scanned documents into PDF or HTML for the web site. Thank to the revision control, the user can restore his web content to a past version or update it to a recent version. He can also identify the changes made by other people in the files.
A content management system can serve as a principal repository containing scientific data, phone numbers, pictures, movies, and documents. Many people use this application to publish, semantically enrich, revise, control, and store documentation. This system has two elements including the Content Management Application that enables even the beginner to remove, modify, and add content without the help of a webmaster. The second element is the Content Delivery Application. This element compiles the data and upgrades the site.
Thanks to the content management system, people can found files stored in it by using keywords that will enable the system to retrieve them. This application indexes all information within an organization. This system can also provide tools for one-to-one marketing, which is the web site ability to customize its advertising and content to a user’s particular characteristics according to the data he provided himself or found in the web site.
If an organization wants to invest in this system, it must consider two factors. First, it better to take on account the geographic dispersion and the size of the organization especially if the organization is present in many countries. The transition to this application is difficult for such organization. Secondly, the members will consider the various forms of electronic data used in the organization. It will be difficult to manage the content if the organization uses diagrams, audio, video, graphics, and text documents to convey data.
There is also another element named Component Content Management System that enables the user to create documents using component parts. If a component uses DITA XML, the user can assemble single component subjects into a map structure or document.
