Types Of Dental Implants
Dental implants are used to replace the form and function of lost natural teeth. The titanium artificial tooth roots are attached to the jawbone, and are left to complete a healing period to allow the implants to completely integrate with the surrounding tissue. After the healing phase is completed, the implants are uncovered and attached to permanent teeth restorations such as a dental crown, dentures, or a dental bridge.
Different Types of Dental Implants
There are different types of dental implants, with each type corresponding to a specific specification that needs to be met with regards to the patient’s jawbone anatomy, and to the unique missing teeth requirements.
Endosteal or Root Form Implants – These types of implants have the strongest resemblance to the shape and size of natural tooth roots, and are embedded directly into the jawbone. Root form dental implants are used to replace a single lost tooth, or to solve the problem of multiple tooth loss. These implants can also be used to stabilise loose dentures.
Fin Implants – Fin implants are thinner compared to other types of dental ...

Blade Implants – Blade implants are embedded directly into the jawbone, so they can be considered as endosteal implants. These implants are exceptionally strong, and are usually used to replace missing teeth located in the back of the mouth, where more force is needed (for chewing) compared to the front teeth.
Mini Implants – Mini dental implants, as the name suggests, are smaller in diameter compared to conventional dental implants. The smaller size makes it possible for these implants to be placed using a minimally-invasive procedure, without the need to cut the gums or to stitch them closed afterwards. Mini implants can be maximised and used immediately after they are loaded.
Subperiosteal Implants – These types of implants are placed just under the gum tissue, but over the jawbone. Made of a light metal framework, subperiosteal dental implants are often used to secure ill-fitting or loose dentures, especially in cases when jawbone deterioration has already set in.
Ramus Frame Implants – Ramus frame implants are generally used to solve the problem of loose dentures that move uncontrollably inside the mouth. These types of implants are often used to stabilise dentures on the lower jaw.
