Eta Visa And Your Passport

Australian ETA Visas are among the most popular types available for both business and leisure travelers. ETA is short for electronic travel authority, this visa type is ideal for short visitor or business trips to Australia.
It is electronically stored authority accessible by travel agents, Australian border agencies and airlines. It offers convenience to eligible applicants as they would not need to visit a departmental office to lodge an application for an Australian ETA. You will not receive a stamp or a label indicating that you hold an ETA, but you will be provided with a confirmation for your records.
Your passport plays a pivotal role in your business or visitor ETA visa. Eligibility for this Australian visa type is only allowed for specific passport holders. For a visitor ETA for example, some passport holders will be allowed to apply for an Australia ETA visa through their travel agent, airline, specialist service provider or an Australian visa office outside Australia. These include passport holders from Andorra, Austria, Belguim, Brunei, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong (SAR), ...
... Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, The Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Republic of San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United State and Vatican City. Online ETA is available for passport holders from Brunei, Canada, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the US.
Aside from eligibility issues, your Australian ETA is also linked to your passport number. When entering Australia with this visa type, you need to use the same passport you present during your application for your travels in the country.
If you obtain a news passport while outside Australia, you will need to obtain a new Australian ETA visa or another type of visa before entering Australia. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to board the plane. If you are getting a new passport while already in Australia, then there is no need to get another visa for as long as the Australian ETA visa is still valid.
If this is the case, and you intend to leave Australia with the new passport and under the validity of the existing ETA, then you need to keep your old passport with your ETA handy. If you intend to leave Australia with the new passport and beyond the validity of your existing ETA, then you will have to acquire another Australian visa.
