Education is said to be the key to success, and Yemen has not been left behind in this pursuit for success. Located in the western part of Asia and said to be the second largest country in the Peninsula, Yemen is a jewel many may not be aware of. Maybe for the sake of those who do not know much about studying in this beautiful country, I will give a brief description of the education system in Yemen.

There are three major levels in the education system in Yemen as in most other nations:

Primary education
This takes 9 years for children of the ages 6 to 14, and upon graduation, the students receive an Intermediate School Certificate.
Secondary education
This is a 3 year program. On successful completion of the secondary education the students receive the General Secondary Education Certificate, also called 'Al Thanawiya'.
Tertiary education
This includes the option of entry to various universities, colleges, vocational training centers as well as technical secondary schools.

Students can enroll at the local universities, whether public or private, which usually takes a total ...
... of 4 years to complete. There is however additional 1 or 2 years for students pursuing medical and engineering studies.

Role of Technology in the education front

When it comes to education there is need to think outside the box, given the rise of technology in our world today. Technology has been responsible for a great number of avenues especially in social media in an effort to make our world a global village.

Physical distance is now not a major hindrance to communication. This has provided a venue for long-distance learning, which allows students from Yemen to acquire international degrees without ever leaving Yemen. This at the same time has enabled other students from all over the world to gain an accredited degree from a Yemen university without being physically present.

This has evidently led to a boost in the strategies used in studies in our schools. Schools have now embraced the use of computers and various electronic gadgets to teach and instruct their students that are taking residential classes.

Practical Technology

IT and technology has now become part and parcel of the education field in almost all areas of study. The role of technology is evident in hospitals where patient records are stored in the hospital database and thus can be easily accessed at any other needed time.

Technology has played an important role in research where researchers from various fields now depend on the internet to retrieve information that they would need for their projects. The accessibility of information online has made it possible to gain practical education since what is taught in the IT classes can be used even by a less tech-savvy individual.

Most schools now are including classes as a general module for most degree courses. This seems to be an important step in ensuring that they produce graduates that are not only aware of their core subjects, but also able to adjust to the changing technological transformations.

Let’s say for instance, you are a Biology major student, and you are expected to research and write a paper on a topic that you are not quite well informed about. Inasmuch as the books in your library may be of great help, there is an easier option of looking up the topic online and in a few seconds retrieve various sources as well as articles on the topic. I would say that is a win-win. For starters, you haven’t spent long hours going through huge text books with no results. The ease of retrieving the information gives you ample time to formulate a perfect research paper.

So whatever your field of choice, embrace technology as it will prove to be of more good than harm in your pursuit of a university education.
