The Most Common Types Of Diabetes

Type I and II are the most common types of diabetes. Type I is when the pancreas doesn't put out enough insulin or produces no insulin at all. Type II diabetes happens when your pancreas is making enough insulin but you body is unable to use the insulin. The onset of type I diabetes occurs at a very young age. Type II diabetes starts later in life and is effected by genetics and poor lifestyle choices.
The good news is that there are diabetes treatment options for both types of diabetes. If you have family members who have diabetes, your predisposed to have type II diabetes and your lifestyle can make the odds even greater.
With both types of diabetes you must monitor your glucose levels, which you can do at home with a glucometer. You should take a fasting glucose level before breakfast and one after meals. Your doctor can tell you what these levels should be. He will also draw blood for the lab to run an A1C. This test checks your body for both good and bad sugars.
Doctors have found that the medication be prescribed isn't working that well and they have many side effects. Sometimes the medicines are ...
... doing more harm than good, because the medicine can damage body organs such as liver and kidneys.
Doctors are beginning to realize that screening helps to find out what is causing the diabetes. We've discovered that different things effect each individual differently. The study of each individuals chemistry makeup helps to pin point the underlying causes for each persons elevated blood sugars. Once doctors realized they need to treat a patient as an individual person and not lump them together as people who have diabetes. Medical groups were formed to create a customized treatment program that works to heal overall body systems that involves regulating blood sugars and metabolism functions.
Diabetes treatment options begins with educating the individuals about their disease. Even though there is a lot of information out there about type II diabetes, usually if the person doesn't have the disease, they have never taken the time to learn anything about it. The goals are to educate the patient and gather as much information about the persons individual's chemistry makeup.
Once this this is done, working with the individual, a plan can be formed that will help each person to take some control over their disease. A plan is form that any many cases not only lowers blood sugar but reverses the disease. These plan usually includes diet changes, weight loss and exercises. These programs can lead to a person with diabetes leading a happy healthy life.
