Catholics: The Original Hipsters

Modernism and all its underlying philosophies have rendered swimming against the current a rite of passage.

It isn't shocking, therefore, that contemporary cultural commentary rarely excludes the mention of hipsters. If they aren't already a defined voting block in campaign war rooms around the country, then they should be. Hipsters dominate the culture and aura of college towns/urban settings like Boston or San Francisco But just what are hipsters? Urban dictionary defines them:

Hipsters are a subculture of men and women typically in their 20′s and 30′s that value independent thinking, counter-culture, progressive politics, an appreciation of art and indie-rock, creativity, intelligence, and witty banter.

The tipping point that awaits hipsters approaches. When any subculture crosses over into the dominant worldview, it loses its allure amongst those desiring to be different. When that happens, I assure you the Catholic Church will be there waiting for you.

Our positions are counter cultural in every way.

We're all about the love. We recognize that contraception pushes couples away, ...
... and does not bring them together.
We're for the little guy: the poor, the migrant, the unborn.
We, too, have our own style. It's called modesty.
Like hipsters, our positions haven't changed in a long time. We are true believers in a cause, and our only loyalty is to Jesus.

So, hipsters, join us. Join the Catholic Church. We are the original hipsters.
