In order to understand about Tonsilolith (Tonsil stones), we first need some brief info.
You will also be given tips on how to remove tonsil stones, at the later section.
Tonsils are a collection of lymph nodes that form two bulbous shaped mass, that are attached to the sides, at the back of a human throat. They can be easily found when a person opens his mouth in the mirror and can see both of them.
As such, studies are still ongoing as to what role it plays in the body. Preliminary and detailed researches in the past have indicated that they play an important role in preventing bacteria and other microorganisms from affecting the human body, via ingestion or food and drinks.
They are an immune system’s first line of defense against foreign bodies. Being the fact, that it functions like a nymph node, they are repositories of white blood cells that fight against diseases.
In order to fight against microorganisms, the tonsil has fissure like openings, which is filled with white blood cells and other cells that ...
... fight against bacteria and other micro organisms.
However, at times, the bacteria and other organism accumulate in these fissures and create problems which lead to Tonsilolith.
These bacteria and others, create thin layers of biofilm like structure within the tonsil crevices or fissures that protects them from anti-biotic and other drugs.
Due to this, the accumulated bacteria and others form small sized lumps or calcified, tiny structures called Tonsil stones.
Tonsil stones are usually undetected, and in many cases a person does not even know that it exists in the first place. The way it is detected is via X-ray films and Radiology. Even then, the tonsil stones are so small, that they are simply indistinguishable from body tissues. This is why it is often not diagnosed by Doctors.
But, when left unchecked or that it becomes serious, it can lead to the many symptoms. Mainly the most important symptom is bad breath (Halitosis). Other symptoms include swelling of tonsils, difficulty in swallowing food etc. It also gives rise to other problems like metallic taste in mouth, closing of mouth, sore throat, choking on food etc.
However, removal of tonsil stones is not a difficult process. You can actually remove them by following easy instructions given at the end of this article.
