British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province, on the shore of the Pacific Ocean. Called Canada's outdoor playground, British Columbia offers exciting outdoor activities all year round. River rafting, world-class skiing, whales watching, you name it, BC has it! Let us take a look at the extraordinary outdoor locations that should in no case be missed when visiting BC.

The Great Bear Rainforest

Situated between Vancouver Island and Alaska, the Great Bear Rainforest is gigantic 19 million acre forest. A nature reserve of nearly 5 million acres, consisting of 20 rainforest valleys and nearly 250 miles of untouched natural coastline, forms the jewel of the crown of the largest temperate rainforest. The Great Bear Rainforest is home to Canada's only Grizzly bear sanctuary, The Khutzeymateen. A cruise to the Khutzeymateen Inlet is an invaluable way to discover the Grizzly as well as spawning salmons and the Giant Sitka Spruce Trees.

The Queen Charlotte Islands

Certainly one of the most remote areas of British Columbia, Queen Charlotte Islands can only be accessed by boat or floatplane. These 138 tiny ...
... islands offer to the visitor a welcome haven from the hustle and bustle of the mainland. If you are seeking peace and tranquility, this is the place to be. Home to the Gwaii Haanas Natural Park, the Queen Charlotte Islands offers an extraordinary display of seabirds, puffins and eagles. The rainforest of the island harbors more than 500 archaeological sites, which are excellent way to discover the history and culture of the Haida People. Kayaking between the islands is an excellent way to experience the pristine beaches and wildlife firsthand.

Alert Bay (Vancouver Island)

Alert bay is very famous for its abundance of orcas whales, the largest member of the dolphin family. A large number of these amazing creatures reside permanently off the northern coast of Vancouver Island between June and October. This makes Alert Bay one of the privileged places for whale watching in British Columbia. The Robson Bight Ecological Reserve is another preferred habitat of the orca, and is situated just nine miles southeast of Alert Bay. Exciting kayak opportunities are available locally in order to examine the orca from as near as 100 m!

Campbell River

Fishing adepts would never want to miss a visit to the Salmon Capital of the World. Every autumn, when the salmon heads upstream to spawn, they attract a multitude of bears, eagles and other wildlife. It is a wonderful opportunity to observe the British Columbian wildlife at its finest. The culinary aspect of the visit cannot be neglected. Freshly-caught fish and shellfish are delicacies that form part of the culture of the region. Campbell River is also just minutes away from the finest dive sites in the world. The undersea world in the area is vibrant with colors, animated by a wide variety of anemones, sponges, tube worms, and corals. And of course, the fishing expedition is a memorable experience. One can fish the Chinook (Spring or King Salmon) all year round. Usually the best time for fishing July through September.
