The history of beads goes back to the Egyptian Era. Yes, you have read it right! Beads were used in rudimentary clothing. These beads were made of ivory and shells. Obviously the beads were not cleanly crafted as they are today but still beads were used on clothing. People of that time were fond of improving their clothing and appearance with beads.

Today there are many different types of beads suitable to use on clothes. Of the hundreds of sizes available in the market, the best results will be when you utilize smaller beads to group together and larger beads in lesser numbers. Some of the styles most commonly used include pony, seed, rondelle or the diverse shapes of faceted beads.

Let us know how these varied types of beads differ from one another:

Pony Beads: When it comes to using pony beads many don’t even exactly know how to use them. Most will say what are pony beads? Well, pony beads are bigger compared to nearly all other beads used on clothing or accessories. Pony beads are shaped somewhat similar to a can of food with a hole bored ...
... through it. Though they are generally opaque but some semi-transparent range is sometimes used. Pony beads are generally used in leather garments and accessories where they are normally attached to each strands of fringe. So now you know what are pony beads and how they can help you bring out the creativity in you.

Seed Beads: Another form of beads is seed beads. They can be either opaque or clear. They are normally made up of glass, although inferior-quality seed beads are sometimes made of plastic. They are more often used to make a pattern by stitching them in place using a grid as a pattern, the similar way a mosaic is made. They generate an amazing show-stopping splash of color, particularly if one uses the semi-transparent beads which catch and reflect light.

Rondelle Beads: They are another fine beads that are shaped like compacted disks with holes bored through them. They are generally used as spacers between the larger beads. Rondelles are opaque, clear, faceted, semitransparent or even jewel-encrusted. Do not make the mistake of only using them as "spacers". They are more elaborate beads and takes second place to larger beads. Rondelles mostly create an unusual, exciting effect and are used as a featured bead.

Faceted beads: They are in fact the "gems"of all beads. They are generally made of precious or semi-precious stones. Low-cost versions made of glass are extensively available. Cutting glass beads alike to the way gemstones are cut enhances the visibility of the bead, because of the facets refracting and reflecting the light. Faceted beads can be glass, plastic, wood, stone, amber, bone or ivory. No matter from which material they are cut, faceted beads append the sparkle of light either refracting or reflecting off of them.

Unusual effects ranging from casual to elegant can be attained depending on which style, type or color of beads you select to make beaded clothes. You can either search for beads in your locality or you can use the internet to search beads for sale online. There are many online retailers that have the complete range of beads in their stores and also provide attractive discounts. So if you do not know any store near you, you can always look for beads for sale online to save your time and efforts.
