RO means Reverse Osmosis – a popular water purification technology that transforms hard water into a drinkable version. Common knowledge suggests that it uses a scientific process to separate mineral and material particles from the water particles. The process, though, can be a complicated one for sure. Yet, honestly, RO isn’t a typical water filtering system, where water passes through the system and gets filtered. RO is a scientific process, which is used for several purposes like water purification, desalination, industrial food preparation, hydrogen production, window cleaning and more.

How does RO purify water?

This system sports a semi-permeable membrane, which is placed between a liquid with two different particle concentrations of the same liquid. Over time, it automatically redistributes the particles so that both the liquids have the same particle concentration. That, in sort, is osmosis. When you reverse this process, you get Reverse Osmosis. In the water purification industry, this system will have pure water and hard water on two sides of the semi-permeable membrane. With the force generated, ...
... all the mineral particles shift to one side of hard water, leaving behind completely safe drinking water.

What are advantages of using RO as the water filter?

RO removes a lot of particles from water- minerals and metals alike. So, it protects you and your family against popularly known harmful particles like lead, mercury and selenium. In addition, there are several other particles in water that make it hard water, such as sodium, calcium, magnesium, etc. With the use of Reverse Osmosis water purification, you remove these elements and the typical taste along with it. In addition, most RO water purifiers use pre-treatment filters and post-treatment filters that help remove bacteria, viruses, inorganic dust particles and chemicals. So, installing an RO system takes care of more than just your hard water problem. You get to drink safe and pure water.

It should be noted, though, that this system is more expensive than UV water purifiers or an activated carbon purifier. So, in spite of being a very efficient water purification system, it is primarily suggested for people with hard water problem. The cost, electricity and AMC expenses make it a cheaper choice than boiled or the packaged mineral water. Yet, it can be unnecessary for people without a hard water problem in the neighbourhood. Yet, it is the best water filtering system and the most recommended product for health conscious people or people with low immunity like babies, the elderly or expecting mothers. So, take this value into account while purchasing your home water purifier.
