Bowel Irregularity And Constipation
When our digestive system is working well, we take its smooth performance for granted. When our bowels are not functioning well, we feel discomfort and irritability. Life is better when the bowels are doing their job and completing the digestive cycle.
Constipation occurs when our bowels perform irregularly. Constipation is not only uncomfortable but it can lead to or be a sign of more serious health problems. When the bowels are not functioning efficiently, the walls of the colon absorb much of the excess water and waste that should be evacuated from the intestinal tract. These residual products can be hormone metabolites, carcinogenic toxins, cholesterol or fats.
Healthy bowel performance will generate one or possible two regular waste movements each day. Constipation or bowel irregularity leads to hormonal imbalance and an overall listless or de-energized activity level.
More than 2 million Americans are suffering from colon diseases like colitis, iletis, diverticulitis, bowel irregularity, bowel sluggishness, lazy bowel syndrome, irritable bowel syndrome and a host of other related disorders. ...
...
To correct the more serious cases, more than 100,000 colostomy operations take place every year in the U.S. Colostomy operations are intended to rid the intestine of blockage by creating either a temporary or a permanent opening between the surface of the skin and the colon.
We need our bowels to perform well. Persons with healthy bowels usually carry between 5 and 10 pounds of fecal matter. Sufferers of chronic constipation can carry 40 pounds or more of fecal matter inside their bodies.
To help keep the digestive tract running smoothly, enema procedures or colon cleansing has proven to be the most effective maintenance option. Enema treatments relieve the lower bowel and free the buildup. There are three basic forms of enema therapy:
- The absorption enema
- The medication enema
- The purgative enema
Other enemas include:
- Air enema
- Steam enema
- Smoke enema
These enemas used to be used fairly exclusively but for the most part have gone by the wayside to contemporary advances.
The intestines store many forms of bacteria. Ideally healthy bowels sustain 85% of friendly bacteria and about 15% of unhealthy bacteria. While the putrefactive bacteria are necessary, abnormally high absorption rates can cause necessary nutrients to break down and can cause noxious gases and flatulence.
For medically administered enemas, the procedure is relatively painless. The large bowel is examined by administering barium and air through a rectal tube. This procedure facilitates the use of an x-ray beam.
Enemas have been performed outside of medical offices for thousands of years. For persons who have not experienced a non-medically administered enema, the procedure can be embarrassing. The recipient will need the help of an administrator who will:
- Lubricate the anal area
- Suspend an enema bag about one foot above the anus
- Open a clamp and allow air to escape the tubing before inserting the nozzle into the anus
- Insert the nozzle or rectal tube according the experience of the finger
- Open the clamp slowly
- Observe the recipient for signs of cramping
- Massage the recipients abdomen to encourage the solution further into the colon
- Stop the flow but encourage the recipient to retain the enema as long as possible
The enema should take approximately 15 minutes. The non-medical procedure can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. However, the benefits are many. In fact, the procedure has become a part of many healing and wellness programs.
The colon is the end piece of the intestinal tract. Many people do not realize that the colon is 5 to 5.5 feet long. It is not uncommon for 10-20 pounds of fecal matter to be congested in the colon.
Enemas cause fairly immediate relief. Some of that relief is quite visible as skin becomes clearer and the recipient’s mental awareness seems to improve. Regular cleansing is recommended for increased physical and psychological performance.
