Printed Circuit Board Assembly Makes It Complex
One of the essential components of electric circuit is PCB. These are made up of glass of reinforced plastic or other insulating material. It supports the different conductive pathways mechanically. Copper tracks are built inside to ensure pathways. Mostly the boards are coated on both the sides. Resistors and chips are fixed to the board. These components either fixed by adhesives or by drilling into the board, depending the size of the board and complexity of the device. Etches are made into the board with help of acid to ensure electricity pathways. By locating and soldering the connections can be ensured and circuited can be completed. These are present in a range of electronic devices, which we use in our daily life. Alongside, PCBs are used in advanced military equipment to spacecrafts. In a nutshell, the modern electronic equipments are hard to manufacture without the PCBs.
Printed Circuit Board Assembly takes center stage in creating such a complex yet functional circuits. These boards sometimes can be multiple layer products depending on the device it is being made for. Or, it could be a single layer ...
... one. Generally in the multiple layers boards quite a few components can be surface- mounted, where as in single layer products it is through-hole method the components are attached. Other words components are inserted in holes in Through-hole construction method and the same components are placed between the layers by Surface-mounting method. However, in both the construction methods the component leads are electrically and mechanically connected by soldering process. Different soldering techniques are used to attach different components to the Boards. Except for the tiny particle soldering, the rest of the soldering can be machine made.
Generally, both through- hole and surface-mount methods are combined in a single unit as some components can be incorporated only by through-hole assembly where as the few others can go with surface-mount only. The other reason demands’ combining of the two methods includes the needs to fix few components firmly, which are likely to be untouched. The hole-through method fixes the component firmly and made to endure all kinds of physical stress. Alternatively by using the surface- mounted technique gives the leverage of using less space, which is equally demanding in the increasingly becoming sleek electronic devices. Another important aspect of PCB Assembly consists of Testing. Boards can be tested in a variety of ways; these include visual inspection, automated optical inspection, analog signature analysis, etc.
