The good news about planning a romantic evening is that anyone can do it. When all is said and done, your romantic evening can last for a short time, a medium length of time or for days. No matter your fancy, one thing is for sure, the more invigorated the senses, the more powerful the romance. There is no doubt about it. Events that stimulate the senses raise the romantic bar.

It never hurts to be in pleasing setting. Victoria British Columbia certainly qualifies as one of the most romantic environments in North America. With gorgeous Pacific seascape in a historic setting, the abundant fragrance of some of the world's horticultural miracles, with intriguing wildlife and plenty of exquisite culinary venues and nightlife galore, Victoria can stir any sense at any time of day or night.

Every romantic evening must embrace four criteria. Spike the senses, put fun on the forefront, add a dose or two of surprise and leave plenty of room for spontaneity. So, make your plan, stay with the basics and be ready to expect the unexpected. Relax, have fun and let the romance happen.

In Victoria, your romantic ...
... night might begin at sunup. A walk through the rainforest will get those senses up and running. After our stroll through the rainforest, we need to get by the water. We will pick up some freshly brewed specialty coffee and some freshly baked Danish and head out to the lighthouse.

We know that when we are outside in Victoria, we must hear. Smell, see and fell the Pacific whenever possible. The lighthouse gives us all that and more. The affects are magical really.

We are so comfortable that we literally have to pull ourselves away. Our next port of call was going to be a Castle museum, but it just does not feel right today. We are off to the home of thousands of butterflies. Those little colorful gems of nature landing on the shoulder add color, light and a certain mystique to our sense-driven day.

We only stay for about 90 minutes. We are delighted and somewhat giddy but hunger calls. We decide upon a garden side cafe and a little people watching. We have no timetable for one of our favorite pastimes. Every time we enter the Butchart Gardens, it is stirring. The breathtaking symmetry of scent, sight and smell force us to browse a bit before we find just the right table.

We opt for a small cafe table overlooking a path. We quickly realize there is a quiet excitement in the air. Everyone around us is spellbound. This has become a lazy afternoon of people and flower watching. Golf at the championship course, just went out the window, but a wonderful window of opportunity is lazily unfolding. The conversation is relaxed, the air fresh and there is laughter at our table. Ah, life is good and getting better.

Around mid afternoon we decide to head back to our favorite B-B. We walk through downtown, do a bit more people watching, window shopping and catching all the sounds. We thought about Chinatown or the Undersea Museum but they can wait.

We are gearing ourselves for a few libations and some culinary delights. We decide to go semi-casual and stay in town. The flowers arrived just in time and a fetching little butterfly pin will always be a reminder of Victoria. We put on some soft music, lounge on the patio and chat about today, tomorrow and all the days ahead.

With a bit of difficulty, we head on down to our restaurant. Of course, champagne. We are going French tonight. Ohhh La La! Actually we split a chateaubriand. It is so beautifully served we feel special and spoiled, but what the heck. After a sumptuous desert or two, we have a tough decision. We were going to take in the casino. It always has a certain appeal and great entertainment, but we are opt for time together. The casino will be there tomorrow.
