As you may remember, the teenage years are some of the most stressful and challenging times a person can experience. Physical changes occur during this time which can be stressful for both parents and children. But that is the way it is all set-up, and we just have to rise to the task so we can help our kids get through it. As your children mature, and look back upon their teen years, they will see that there were some good parts too. Adults, later on in life, in retrospect will think of their high school years as being exciting and rewarding times. Many people, however, will think about this time as being one of the worst parts of their lives.

While it may be the hardest thing you do, there will be times when you have to sit and watch your child not reach their goals. While you might want to step in to guarantee your child's success, you have to let them experience it on their own. You will need to be prepared for some hard talks, like when your child has a certain goal that just may not be realistic. Be attentive to how your child is feeling, and then explain a few things to them in a straight forward manner. Let them ...
... know that they can still excel, but maybe they have to work a little harder at it. There will be times of negativity, but you need to find the bright spots amongst it all. As a parent, you should be actively seeking the right time to help your child learn about our world. We strongly feel children have a naturally tendency toward interests that involve for which they have natural abilities. As with all kids, there will also be problematic areas where they will need extra help with things that do not come naturally like the others. Parents can best serve their kids by allowing them to experience activities they have never tried before which allows them to build strength and endurance in life. This will give them a richer set of experiences from which they can make better choices and become more enriched.

Disciplining children, with regards to abiding by the house rules, is a policy that should be consistent, and most parents know this. In two parent households quite often one parent has a lot more resolve than the other. The parent who gives in will be singled out by the children, who can be masters at manipulation at home. Many problems could be avoided if the parents could agree, when it comes to the rules, but too often they can't. If the rules were set where both parents agreed and the children knew what would happen if they disobeyed, there would be no reason to ever give-in. Being a keen observer and a great communicator will go a long way in becoming a great parent. Having a discussion involves multiple people, so be willing to include your child in that and not make it a speech.
