In our current society, though, kids need to be raised to think independently and when you are too strict or authoritarian they do not develop this skill and either rebel at an early age or become far too docile and obedient for adult life. On the other hand, if you are too permissive, your kids won't have a good understanding of boundaries and will likely grow up to be very undisciplined.
