What Are Hemroids

Scientifically, hemroids are pillow-like clusters of veins beneath the mucous membrane lining at the lowest part of the rectum area and the anus. This cluster of veins may swell and distend when they experience extreme pressure from the inside. This condition is generally known as hemroids (piles).
Symptoms of Hemroids
Although there are several symptoms associated with hemroids, people suffering from the condition may not experience all of them. Certain symptoms are:
* Swelling around the anus
* Pain around the anal walls while walking, sitting or standing
* Discomfort in and around the anus
* Excessively smelly stool
* bright red blood covering the stool
* A hard lump around the anus
* Anal fissures
* Anal fistulae
* Anal abscesses
* Irritation and itching in the anal area
* Hanging out of an anal tissue after passing stool
Excessive s12training, rubbing or cleaning the anus may worsen the symptoms.
Types of Hemroids
There are two types of hemroids
* Internal: Inflammation occurs in the internal ...
... veins of the anus. Although internal hemroids are not associated with pain, patients usually experience bleeding during bowel movements.
* External: These hemroids develop under the skin around the anus and are the most uncomfortable, as the overlying skin becomes irritated and wears away. Patients can experience sudden and severe pain if a blood clot forms inside the external hemroids. Lump can also be seen around the anus. When the clot dissolves, the excess skin may itch. However, at times, the clot may develop into thrombosis, a condition in which the pressure in the clot develops to an extent that the pain becomes unbearable.
How Common Are Hemroids?
Almost 80% of the US population is prone to hemroids sometimes during their lifetime. This painful condition can afflict both men and women. However, pregnant women are at higher risk of developing hemroids, as hemorrhoidal vessels get enlarged during pregnancy due to:
* Hormonal changes in the body
* Pressure of the fetus in the abdomen

* Undertake regular exercises
* Avoid excessively spicy foods
