Are Enovels Different From An Ebook?

Difference between an enovel and an ebook is same as that between a novel and a book namely while the former is a work of fiction, the latter is merely a compilation of information which may or may not be fiction. In such a situation, is there any difference that needs to be kept in mind by the author while writing either of them? Traditionally, readers expect novels to extend over several hundred pages whereas a book could vary from being a thick fat encyclopedia to a digest which extends over a few pages or even a page-long report. As any non-fiction writer would point out, an ebook is relatively straightforward and strictly devoid of fluff of any kind. Emphasis is on the authenticity of information and even if the book is not as long as a work of fiction, it is still prized by readers simply due to the guidance that it provides. Comparatively, an enovel requires a lot more hard work not only in terms of length but viability of its plot too. Traditionally novels have always been epics and this has continued to be the accepted norm in digital media too. Likewise, the rule pertaining to the viability of the plot remains the same as traditional paperback versions wherein people prefer tales of fiction that have the power to hook any reader till the last page is turned. A digital novel can be as short as a single page ebook too but in such a situation it is always better for the author to either inform his audience that it is a short story or opt for a compilation.

Both the enovel as also ebook can be published or self-published and this is determined by the royalty expectation of the author. While publishing is facilitated through several free as also charging platforms, self-publishing entails building a website and using it to launch books. A point that should be mandatorily addressed while publishing in both cases is that of formatting and in this regard the creation should be formatted so that it can be accessed via multiple devices. After all, irrespective of whether the work is that of fiction or non-fiction, the ultimate objective of reaching the target audience and enjoying widespread readership holds good for both.

Over all, there are no stringent rules that govern the creation of an enovel or an ebook and the bottom-line of holding mass appeal is the same for both. As long as the book delivers exactly what is being expected by its readers in terms of quality of content, length does not matter. However, as a precaution, authors of short stories are advised to mention the word count in case it is really short story so that people do not feel disappointed when the word count is eventually revealed. Another strategy that applies equally well to both pertains to upholding a theme and maintaining it uniformly across several write-ups.

For any aspiring author knowing what differentiates an ebook from a fictional work is something that would help in the long run. Although the rules pertaining to an enovel are same as that of the digital book, there are certain variations that should be borne in mind.
