Singulair is an anti-allergic medication which is used for treatment of asthma patients. Using this medication we can stop asthma attacks. It is also used for the treatment of the exercise-induced bronchospasm (EIB). Mostly it is prescribed for the prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and pediatric patients. Singulair is also indicated for relief from the symptoms of seasonal allergic thinitis in patients 2 years of old and older; and perennial allergic rhinitis in patients 6 months of age and older.

Description :

Since it is medication for the asthma then also it will not work fast enough to threat an asthma attacks that has already began. For that you have to use only a fast-acting breathing medicine to take care of it. Although SINGULAIR is effective in improving airway function in asthmatics with documented aspirin sensitivity, it has not been shown to truncate bronchoconstrictor ...
... response to aspirin and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in aspirin-sensitive asthmatic patients. Singulair is a leukotriene (loo-koe-TRY-een) inhibitor. Leukotrienes are chemicals your body releases when you breathe in an allergen. These chemicals cause bump in your lungs and tapering of the muscles around your airways, which can develop asthma symptoms.

Side Effects :

Check with your doctor immediately if you have any side effects like Abdominal or stomach pain, bloody nose, flu-like symptoms , general feeling of discomfort or illness, headache, joint pain, pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones, shortness of breath or troubled breathing, sweating, tightness of the chest, trouble with swallowing, unusual tiredness or weakness.

Dosage :

For adults and adolescents 15 years of age and older: one 10-mg tablet. For pediatric patients 6 to 14 years of age: one 5-mg chewable tablet. For pediatric patients 2 to 5 years of age: one 4-mg chewable tablet or one packet of 4-mg oral granules. For pediatric patients 12 to 23 months of age: one packet of 4-mg oral granules. Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients less than 12 months of age with asthma have not been established.

Indications :

Do not increase or decrease your dose or stop using this medication without consulting your doctor. Carry on use of this medication regularly to keep your asthma under control, even during sudden asthma attacks or when you have no asthma symptoms. Continue to also take other medications for asthma as directed by your doctor. If an asthma attack or other breathing problem occurs, use your quick-relief inhaler as prescribed. You should always have a quick-relief inhaler with you.
