Sun room in one’s home is like an energy-saving heater and a real oasis. The whole family can enjoy and relax while relishing the natural light and heat. There are some ways to have a sun room built in one’s home. A do-it-yourself sun room has a lot of things to consider. There are several parts in the plan to fill and learn on how to build a sun room.

In creating do-it-yourself sun room, it is best to check out other sun rooms by looking at pictures. Try searching online for samples or check out the catalogs of manufacturers. There is immense architectural changeability in designing sun rooms. It is advantageous to go into the different designs and structure before carrying out one’s design in mind.

One should also stick to the reason on why he’s building a sun room. A sun room could be a visitor’s area, greenhouse for sun-loving plants or it could be a rest area.

In order to build a sun room, it is strongly recommended to have the room’s main window facing the solar south--- the position that makes it ...
... possible for plants to grow in any season and can produce inert heat on winter months.

A do-it-yourself sun room may not be the most energy-saving sun room created. To counter this, make sure to take advantage of its thermal mass. Increase the sun room’s thermal mass by using concrete, stone or brick sun room floor.

So what do these thermal mass materials do? These conduct and keep heat and cold energy and amazingly discharge the energy to a living area if needed. The sun room’s brick/stone floor stores the heat coming from the sun, thus, the room remains cool even if it’s hot outside and the heat is released on sun down to warm the room.

The best thermal mass material is water. Water plants such as water hydrangea, lily can be added in the sun room by putting them in large barrels.

A do-it-yourself sun room is commonly built in a chunk foundation of the house. Buying treated wood is necessary. A popular option is to get aluminum for building sun rooms. Each piece of wood should be painted or stained.

For a better do-it-yourself sun room, add durable double-glazed windows which provide absolute insulation and reduce glare. When buying the double-glazed windows, ask the U-value before buying them. It is the U-value that determines the amount of heat conducted by the glass window. A lower U-value window makes a sun room more energy efficient.

Also don’t forget to work on the aesthetics of your sun room. It should also look good in the eyes of onlookers. It should add beauty to one’s house and backyard. Make sure that it is beautiful inside out.
