There are very few instances of an actual free sports bet out there. Sure, there are NCAA Tournament Pools that you can get into for a dollar or less on your local level, but even something that is indeed that cheap cannot be considered to be a free sports bet. You can come close to a free sports bet with some of those guaranteed winning matchups that end springing up during the NBA playoff. One example of what is basically a free sports bet would be Michael Jordan and the Bulls facing the Atlanta Hawks in the 1997 playoffs. I'm sure the people of Atlanta might be offended that this series was considered to be a free sports bet by some.

Sure, you have one of the most successful coaches of all time as far as wins patrolling the sidelines for the Hawks in Lenny Wilkens, but the common understanding and logical control that Phil Jackson had over his Chicago Bulls team basically still made this series a free sports bet. This is despite all the things that Wilkens had accomplished. ... Steve Smith on their roster, once a team like the Chicago Bulls got on a roll it was as if picking them to win was a free sports bet, because there was little risk involved.

Had there been a key injury on the Bulls roster, maybe that would have helped the Atlanta Hawks be more competitive in the series, thus not really making a Bulls win a free sports bet. The Bulls seem to luck out during the 1990's and not have any major injuries of note during the playoffs. This fact made picking them in most playoff series that they participated in a free sports bet. When a team is that dominant it makes nearly every series they were in a free sports bet that made Bulls fans very happy as they won six NBA championships during the decade of the 1990's.
