CLEP Exams

There are currently 34 CLEP exams offered by the College Board. Each exam allows students to demonstrate that they possess knowledge of material taught in undergraduate college equivalent to the knowledge level of a student who has actually taken the course. CLEP Formats and Scoring

There are no deductions for any unanswered questions on a CLEP exam. Most of the CLEP exams are multiple choice, with a few involving fill in the blank questions. The English Composition with Essay CLEP exam involves both multiple choice and formal essay writing and students taking this exam will receive their score in about four weeks. Since most CLEP exams are completely computer-based, students receive their scores immediately after they complete the test. If a student needs an official score report, he or she may specify so at the beginning of the CLEP exam and will receive the report in about a month. The College Board scores CLEP tests on a scale from 20 to 80 and the majority of schools grant college credit for scores 50 or higher. However, individual schools determine passing CLEP scores. Higher learning institutions are also responsible for determining the amount of credits that students will receive for each CLEP test.
