Food That Goes Well With White Sangria
Sangria is a wine-based cocktail drink that's best served during the summer seasons. This fact is due to the fact that sangria's origins are traced to Spain and Portugal, which typically have warmer climates than the usual U.S. or UK setting. While wine is more for classy scenarios, sangrias are more about relaxing with style.
The wine used in sangria is usually red, but white sangrias or sangria blanca, are getting more and more popular; perhaps due to it looking like the more stylish older brother of the gin and tonic. However, as different wines go best with different foods, different sangria mixes go well with different foods as well. There is an exception, of course. Tropical foods usually go well with sangria regardless of what they are.
For the best experience with sangria, though, it's best to go back to its roots. Mediterranean dishes are designed for sangria and the other way around. By Mediterranean, think of a tropical paradise with a lot of seafood and roasted white meat. In fact, most seafood are perfect sangria companions. Shellfishes such as oysters, clams and scallops as well as crustaceans such ...
... as crabs and lobsters, all of these go great with sangria. Fried or grilled fish is great for it too.
While seafood can come in any type of preparation, the best way for meat to go well with sangria is through grilling or roasting. Frying meat isn't really something that goes well with it, but if you like it then nobody should be able to stop you from pairing it with sangria.
As sangria is more of a cooling-off drink, spicy foods go well with it as well. Tex-mex dishes go great with it. Tacos, enchiladas, tortillas, and other spicy dishes are sharp contrasts to the sangria's cool taste. If you find yourself in a place where there's Asian food, go for Thai or Indian cuisine as it complements sangria beautifully. If you can't distinguish one from the other, just think chili, curries and jalapenos.
As you may see in most events where wine is served, there's also usually a cheese plate going around. With wine, you can't go wrong with cheese, and it is no different with sangria. If you happen to hold a menu with a few cheese choices, go for it. Cheese has a certain richness and almost creamy texture that contrasts sangria.
As you may have noticed by now, sangria isn't just great for parties. It's also good for just sitting outside and relaxing. This brings a lot of other light foods to the figurative table. Cold cuts, for instance, go very well with sangria. Ham and lettuce sandwiches are okay, but crackers are a lot more neutralizing for the fruitiness of the drink.
While wine in general is a little more about class, wine mixed with various fruits is more about having fun and relaxing on a paradise. There are a lot more foods to go with sangria, so try most of the food mentioned above to get the gist of it. From there, you can start experimenting with your own food pairings. Here's more information about the white wine sangria.
