Is Your Lottery A Bit Odd?

Some people believe that lottery number patterns and trends do not exist. And, defensively, they proudly roll out the same worn statement. 'All wagers are equally likely to win.' This may surprise you but, I totally agree.

It is telling that lottery analysis critics feel so at ease with their defense, but know better than to apply the same logic to other forms of gambling. For example, they would probably be hesitant to claim, 'Everybody that plays Blackjack has an equal opportunity to win.' Why? Because, the critics know that a player can improve their odds of winning. For instance, card counting information can alert a player that the odds are now in his favor. This knowledge isn't foolproof, but, over time, it gives the player an edge.

If the critics applied their philosophy to horse racing, then each entry would have an equal chance of being the winner. Before the race starts, when all the entries are lined up at the gate this is true. And, yet, it is common knowledge the chances of winning are better for some horses than others. ... what the odds are. The track uses computers to analyze the past performance of each horse to determine the chances of winning for each horse in the race.

For every type of gambling there is, from poker to roulette to keno and on and on, the same argument can be made. But, it is in games of chance where everyone has the same chance of winning, where professional gamblers make a living. So, how do they accomplish this impossible task? They play the odds.

This is the part of the equation the critics ignore. They falsely assume that because all numbers are equally likely to win, that there is nothing you can do to improve your odds of winning. That assumption is flat wrong. Instead, why not act like a professional gambler; play the odds?

This is what I'm talking about. As I've said, I agree with the 'All wagers are equally likely to win.' philosophy. But at the same time, I�m not going to waste my money on 1-11-19-27-35-47 in the next lottery drawing. Why not? The bet has all odd numbers and lottery statistics prove that this is a very poor wager. How do I know that? Let me show you. I'll use Lotto Texas in this example.

In Lotto Texas there are 25,827,165 possible wagers and each one has an equal chance of being the lottery jackpot winner. However, did you realize there are only 296,011 wagers having all odd numbers? This means that the chances that one of these wagers will be the lottery jackpot winner is only a small 1%! Folks, that's a longshot at 100 to 1. Therefore, you would have absolutely no chance of winning the lottery in 99 of the next 100 drawings. Do you really want to do that?

If you were at the track, would you bet everything on a 100 to 1 shot? In Texas Holdem, would you go all in on the river if there was only one card in the deck that would make your hand a winner? Would you say hit me in Blackjack with 20 showing? Answering yes to any of these questions, means you don't need to read this article, you need some help.
