certain natural substanceAbout Xyzal :

Xyzal also known as Levocetirizine is an anti-allergic medication. It is an antihistamine (a drug or other compound that inhibits the physiological effects of histamine, used especially in the treatment of allergies) used to reduce allergy symptoms such as watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching. It works by blocking a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction. Xyzal is administered orally in the form of tablets or oral solution. It works by jamming a certain natural substance (histamine) that your body makes during an allergic reaction.

Working of Xyzal :

Xyzal tablets and solution both contain the active ingredient levocetirizine dihydrochloride, which is a type of medicine called a non-sedating antihistamine. Levocetirizine is also available without a brand name, i.e. as the generic medicine. Levocetirizine works by preventing the actions of ...
... histamine. Histamine is a substance produced by the body as part of its defense mechanisms. It is stored in cells called mast cells, in almost all tissues of the body. When the body reacts to a foreign substance (known as an allergen, e.g. flower pollen), the mast cells motivated by the allergen release their stores of histamine. The released histamine then binds to its receptors (H1 receptors), causing a chain reaction that results in allergic symptoms. It causes an increase in blood flow to the area of the allergy, and the release of other chemicals that add to the allergic response.

How to Use?

Xyzal is supplied as a 5 mg tablet intended for oral administration.
The common initial dose of Xyzal in adults and children aged 12 years and older is 5 mg once daily in the evening.
Some patients may be adequately controlled by 2.5 mg once daily in the evening.
The recommended initial dose of Xyzal in children 6 to 11 years old is 2.5 mg (1/2 tablet) once daily in the evening.
The 2.5 mg dose should not be exceeded because the systemic exposure with 5 mg is approximately twice that of adults.
