8 Tips to Cook Shrimp Perfectly
1. Do not overcook
There are many ways to cook shrimp dishes. If you want to know the fundamental process of cooking shrimp dishes, you are recommended to not overcook it. It loses all flavor and taste, and becomes really tough when we overcook it. Regardless of whether you use charcoal grilling or gas grilling, or broiling, pan frying or deep frying, you should never cook it too long. This is the biggest tip to follow while cooking any shrimp dish.
2. Thaw in refrigerator
If the recipe requires thawing, ...
... you can either thaw it in the refrigerator overnight or thaw it under cold running water. Thawing is necessary to bring back the freshness and softness in the shrimp. If you have bought bigger shrimp for cooking them at home, then there would be most likely 15 odd shrimp in the packet. You should thaw them under coldwater since coldwater thawing can be applied to that much of shrimp. Do not thaw at room temperature or under warm or hot water.
3. Do not refreeze
Whether it’s white shrimp or any other, once it’s thawed, it’s recommended not to refreeze them.
4. Use within 24 hours
Although you will rarely find fresh shrimp on the market, they are still sold at higher rate than frozen. If you are buying fresh shrimp, make sure they are cooked within 24 hours maximum since they can decay quickly.
5. Clean and devein for broiling
If you are broiling shrimp, remember to clean and devein the shrimp first and then spread the shell open and rinse it under cold water. After preparing it broil it in oven for about 5 minutes.
6. Thaw for pan frying
When you’ve thought to pan fry the shrimp, do remember to thaw it first. Unless you thaw it, it will spatter too much. Then heat the required amount of olive oil and fry the shrimp for about 3-4 minutes.
7. Use raw shrimp for grilling
For grilling it’s better to use raw shrimp than precooked shrimp since grilling causes the shrimp to dry out. Shrimp do not taste good when they are dried too much.
8. Play with the recipe
After getting the fundamental knowledge on how to cook shrimp you should always play your hand with different recipes and ingredients to prepare your own favorite shrimp dishes.
