Choosing The Best Online Cpr Certification
CPR (cardiopulmonary respiration) has saved countless numbers of lives, whether the person administering it is a medical professional or someone off the street. The same goes for first aid, which is the main point of certification. Although many believe these training courses are only good for medical personnel, the truth is that they have been set up for people from all walks of life.
Traditional training courses can be found in pretty much every major city. It's a busy world, however, and many don't have the time to go and learn CPR and first aid techniques. Now they don't have to, thanks to online courses.
Many places offer online CPR and first aid courses now, a convenient and cost effective option to traditional training for those getting or renewing their certification. Once you receive CPR and first aid certification, you'll need to recertify every two years to refresh your memory, the lesson and techniques, and stay updated on current developments.
These courses have been designed by experts for the most effective teaching module. First aid, CPR and defibrillator techniques are all taught ...
... via computer-aided training. Like any school, the basic discipline insists that you pay attention and learn to gain that certification; the only change is the teaching method. Depending on your needs and the company, you can take certification classes in a bundle, which covers CPR, First Aid and AED (automated external defibrillator), or as separate classes.
Just like any business, not all certification companies are created equally. It's easy to fall victim to legitimate looking advertising campaigns, low prices and passing rates. You end up going through the online course and receiving a fake certificate that isn't accepted anywhere. Keep in mind the following things when looking for the best online CPR and First Aid certification courses:
How do they provide the certification?
Looking through courses, you'll come across three ways to receive your certification card once you pass the CPR and first aid courses:
- After passing the tests, the site allows you to download a picture of your certification card and print it off. At no time do they even offer to send an official version in the mail.
This is a warning sign. Personally printed certifications (printed by you), are not legitimate certifications!
- After passing the tests, the site allows you to print off a temporary card. You will also receive an official card by mail, signed by the company's certified instructor, within a few days.
This is legitimate. Some certification places offer the ability to print a temporary copy as a courtesy and as proof that you have completed certification. Many times, individuals need the temporary copy for job placement or job improvement/training benefits.
- After passing the tests, the company sends an official card by mail, signed by the company's certified instructor. No printing is allowed.
This is legitimate, although it makes no allowances for time-pressed individuals who must wait for the certification card.
Are they widely accepted?
Even legitimate companies can have a low area of acceptance. Before going through the CPR and first aid certification courses, check to see the scope of acceptance for that particular company. Although most companies whose instructors have been trained by the American Red Cross and American Heart Association are widely accepted, it's still wise to check with your particular organization.
What are their guidelines based on?
Even certification companies need to be certified and have proper guidelines. Before starting an online CPR or first aid certification course, look over the site and make sure they use the latest ECC guidelines. In addition, instructors need to be certified by OSHA and nation emergency response organizations.
By answering just these three questions, you'll have a much better chance of finding the best online CPR certification and first aid certification courses.
