It was Friday evening and I was going back home from work. I was thinking of making that evening really special for Olivia. After a long and enduring time of putting in hard work and chasing money to solve my financial issues, I was a free man.

That Friday I submitted my last installment to the bank. I was very relaxed and calm that day, because I had no debt left to repay. The biggest problem of my family was now long gone. To celebrate that achievement, I thought of buying a good wine and a good movie to watch with Olivia, my one true love. I knew that weekend was going to be the best weekend of my life.

I turned my car to Bedford Ave and parked my car in front of a wine shop. From the huge collection of different wine I bought “2009 Coltibuono Cetamura Chianti”, a fine wine. After that, I went to the nearby video store. I passed through all isles but I was not able to decide on one good movie. Then a DVD caught my eyes. Without waiting I picked the DVD up, rushed to the cashier and bought it.

When Olivia heard the sound of the garage door opening, she came out running. As soon as I got out of my car, she hugged me like she was meeting me after a long time. I opened the back door of my car and took out the wine and the DVD.

After we ate our dinner, both drinking and the movie started with the word “Cheers!”

“Can we go to the Mount Everest?” Olivia asked innocently after watching a scene of Morgan Freeman standing on the peak of a mountain and saying “In that complete silence, that majestic mountain talked back.” I was also impressed by the scene and how Morgan Freeman represented that white giant.

I replied “Yes, we can.” She got excited.

She replied “Let’s make a note, sign it and hang it on our bedroom wall. It will keep us reminding about our Everest tour.”

I agreed “Yes, let’s do it.”

We made a note of our future Everest tour, signed it and hung it on the wall facing our bed. Every day, when we woke up we used to see the note reminding us to take a day off.

After two months, it all stopped because of a surprise. Olivia gave me the good news.

He eyes were glowing like a million stars when she said “I am pregnant.”

Our son’s kinder garden drama,baseball matches, sports competition and graduation day kept us so busy thatwe actually forgot about ourselves and our tour.

After graduation, my son decided to study atBoston University and the happiness increased when we got a “Letter of acceptance” from Boston University. Then came the day when my son was moving out. Olivia was helping him pack his bags and putting necessary stuff in. My son was finding some books and family photos in the store room. While taking out the books from the shelf a paper fell down. He picked it up. It was our Everest tour note.

My son convinced us to get set for our celebration trip, as he had seen me and my wife working really hard all these years to keep everything managed.

After nearly 15 days, on Saturday, I got a call from my friend Jerry. He invited me to watch “New York Rangers Vs. Chicago Blackhawks” match in Madison Square Garden arena. I couldn’t say no.

On that Saturday I went to Jerry’s house, we took his car and went to the arena. We were standing beside the ticket booth and Jerry started the conversation. He asked me about my Everest base camp trekking tour. I told him everything. My friend Joshua was buying tickets. He overheard my conversation and he jumped out of the line. He recommended me a travel agency based in Nepal, which can help me with my Everest Base Camp Trekking tour. His girlfriend, who was a bag packer and a celebrity travel blogger, had strongly recommended these guys for travel to Nepal, Bhutan or Tibet.

Next day, I talked to the travel agency executive. The guy answered all my questions politely and he gave me every bit of information. That was it for me. I planned my tour with that travel agency.

After nearly 30 days, Everest Base camp site, Himalaya.

I opened the tent, came out and turned and twisted my body to shake of idleness. After opening my eyes properly what I saw took my breath away. That white giant was standing right in front of me, looking at me and greeting me “Welcome” while bathing in clouds and mist. The giant was standing with his friends Nilgiri, Tilicho, Annapurna, and Gangapurna and covering the area with a big shadow.

The air was thin, but I took a deep breath. The excitement of accomplishing my dream made me feel lighter. I was really calm. I just stood there watching the great Everest.

Olivia came out of the tent after sometime. He saw me standing there watching the greatness of that mountain and without thinking anything else she hugged me.

And she said “Thank you” and I was free again.
