It's amazing to consider the number of new inventions every year that truly could impact the lives of millions in a positive way. However, getting a great invention from a prototype to production and in an infomercial takes a great deal of time and money. In fact, many times products are invented and the inventors have no idea how to market the product. There are, however, quite a few ways to market products to the masses that is more affordable than buying primetime television slots. The most affordable way to advertise to the masses is of course on television, but with DRTV. DRTV stands for direct response television and simply means it is a method of advertising on television while providing a method for direct contact by customers. DRTV advertising rates are considerably more affordable than traditional advertising rates.

Direct response television is well known to the masses, although most people are accustomed to the term "infomercial" rather than the term DRTV. And despite the fact that DRTV is a wonderful advertising medium there are a few things that must be considered before taking this route.

Target ...
... Market
An important consideration in whether or not to advertise through DRTV is the target market. It's important to determine this up front because if you have a very small niche market it might not be worthwhile to market via DRTV. However, if your product is quality and appeals to the masses then it makes sense to advertise through DRTV. Any product that can improve a customer's life whether it is a cleaning product, exercise product, or anything of that nature, is likely to sell well on DRTV. Budget wise, DRTV is not cost effective if you are only marketing to a small niche market.

Budget
That brings up the next consideration, which is the overall budget. It must be determined whether or not DRTV is something that is affordable. In many cases, DRTV advertising can cost half of what traditional television advertising costs. Although if you don't have enough money up front or if you don't think you will reach enough people to make money then you need to reconsider the best method of advertisement for your product.
