Katan Silk Sarees are plain silk fabrics that were once woven by hand alone with plenty of adornments of beautiful patterns and woven motifs on them. Today they are also woven on power looms and then decorated with designs, woven patterns and printed motifs.
Katan Silk is also used for making brocades known as Pothans which are closely woven and light in texture, with a major portion of the patterns on it, being either of gold or silver zari. Pothans are characterized by the use of netting (jal) on them, made out of silver and Tilla (zari thread).
