Voltage Regulators are engineered to automatically maintain a constant level of voltage. It could be a small device, or it could be a circuit that maintains the voltage that is being directed to a microprocessor. A common example would be the power supply used in personal computers, which generate five volts. A large number of these microprocessors require voltage below 3.5 volts. Voltage regulators can provide as well a stable DC voltage, which is independent of temperature and load current.

There are two popular kinds of voltage regulators: switching and linear. The first type uses an active pass device, which is being controlled by high powered amplifier. Switching regulators on the other hand, work by storing energy periodically, in the magnetic field. It then discharges this energy into the load. Since this is a reversible process, no energy loss is incurred, compared to dropping resistors or linear regulators.

Voltage Regulators are necessary to keep voltages within the desired or ideal range which the equipment can accommodate, using that voltage level. These are also utilized in electronic equipments which have been determined to have excessive variations in some voltages.

The liquid filled transformer is used in a broad range of industrial and commercial applications. Filled with special oil, this type of transformer absorbs the heat from the coils. These transformers are also described as liquid insulated, or the cooled type transformer. Since it uses oil as a cooling medium, liquid filled transformers may require necessary steps to address the possibility of leakage.

There are different types of transformers and regulators being sold and installed in our machines and equipments. It only takes proper care and maintenance to avoid improper usage and accidents. You have to remember that improper usage or installation of the transformer may lead to explosion. And also, do not disregard the HIGH VOLTAGE sign to protect yourselves and other people.
