Today's Latin Dating scene is burning up with hot single celebrities such as Mario Lopez, Zoe Saldana, Perez Hilton, America Ferrera, and Rosario Dawson trying to find their Mr. or Ms. Right. And while these celebrities haven't professed publicly to utilizing online dating sites, like Amor.com, to find a date, love, a relationship or their soul mate, we wouldn't be surprised if they have online dating profiles. And why wouldn't they? With more than two million Latinos and Latinas dating via mainstream online dating sites, looking for love online is a great way to meet that special someone! And with Latino celebrity super couples such as Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, Javier Bardem and Penelope Cruz, and Rosie Perez and Ramon Rodriguez as role models for being in loving and committed relationships, we weren't surprised to learn that many single Latinos date within their race. ... marriage, we wondered what makes Latin dating so distinct. And, in particular, what kinds of dating and relationship issues are predominant in today's U.S. Latin dating scene. When it comes to finding out about Latin dating, love, and romance, we turned to "The Hookup" blogger, Sarita, at Latina magazine. While reading her posts, we discovered that her dating escapades are actually really similar to our own! Recently back on the Latin dating scene, Sarita's blog posts delve into issues including grooming before a hookup, indecent proposals from past flings, the length of a first blind date, and shirtless male profile photos. Some of her advice for Latinas dating and hooking up with their friends with benefits included keeping up with grooming routines, but also not being afraid to admit being a bit overgrown during an unanticipated make out session. Most guys would be understanding - as experienced by a friend of hers caught in a hairy situation - and would either dive right in or share their shaving kits. We were intrigued when Sarita posted about a fling unexpectedly resurrected while she was off the Latin dating scene. She fondly recalled the steamy week-long romance with hottie Luis from South America, but then admitted to being torn about meeting up when he suddenly got in touch to propose another hot and steamy dalliance during his trip to the U.S. In a committed relationship, she chose to stay faithful, but still couldn't ignore the memories of that steamy romance. When it came to first date etiquette, we actually disagreed with Sarita's strategy to keep the meeting short by stating at the beginning of the date that she could only stay for an hour because she had a party/dinner/event to also attend to that evening. Perhaps double booking back-to-back events on the same evening as a blind date works on the Latin dating scene, but we think it's offensive for a first date to only commit themselves to meet for an hour. Either think up a better excuse to get out of an uncomfortable first date, like a migraine or a sudden work emergency, or be mature and state - after realizing that the date won't result in a relationship - that you don't see things working out but it was a nice meeting regardless. Finally, we laughed out loud when Sarita talked about the shirtless male profile photo phenomenon. We couldn't agree more, especially as we find ourselves faced with the same situation while looking for dates online. We think that Latinos dating online and posting photos to their profiles should stick to the glamour shots and let us find out how they look shirtless in due time. In our own quest to find our soul mates, we feel that it helps to keep tabs on other singles dating and looking for love online.
