What Do Seasoned Lotto Players Do To Increase Their Odds?

Millions of people are drawn to play their favorite games of chance. And, all of them are looking for ways to improve their odds of winning. Whether it is Texas Holdem, Blackjack, Horse Racing or the Lotto, their aficionados show up to play the game they love. And, they all share one thing in common. They are looking for that winning advantage.

For each of these games, the players can be grouped; the vacationer, the beginner or novice, the recreational player, the student of the game and the serious player. The serious players know the ins and outs and understand the nuances of their game. This sets them apart from the average player. The common thread for all serious players is they know how to play the odds. They not only know how, but have the self discipline necessary to consistently use those odds to their advantage.

Here is a glimpse into their world. Now, this may sound strange, but I'm going to start by talking about something that everyone has seen on TV many times. I'm going to talk about hurricane forecasting. Using hurricane forecasting and gambling in the same sentence may sound strange, but ...
... actually they have a lot in common. So, what is it? Easy; the Cone of Uncertainty.

You've all seen the Cone of Uncertainty spread out from the hurricanes current locations. The most probable path is right down the middle. The less likely storm track is near the cones borders. It covers quite a large area and you would think we could do better. But, in spite of all the computing power we have today, the Cone of Uncertainty is the best that weather forecasters can do; they're playing the odds.

On the Weather Channel and the various news programs, you've seen the models depicting the most probable landfall locations, as well as, the storm tracks that are less likely. Let's have some fun. Instead of looking straight down from space at these models, let's look at them horizontally. Suppose you're on a boat looking toward shore. Next, draw a graph that shows the most and least likely landfall locations. It would look something like this.

You may recognize this as the infamous Bell-Shaped Curve from statistics and probability. Fifty is the most likely outcome and those from 0-10 or 90-100 are the least likely outcomes. The weather forecasters models assure us that landfall will not occur at 0 or 100.

If you were a gambler, how would you take advantage of this information? If someone offered you a bet that the storm would make landfall between points 30 and 70, you wouldn't take that bet because there is a very high probability that the hurricane will do exactly that. If someone offered you a bet that the storm would hit between 0 and 30 or 70 to 100, you would immediately check your pockets to see how much money you had on you. Why? Because, that would be a very good bet. The odds would be in your favor.

In the previous generation, everybody used to laugh and joke about the the weather forecast, but today, thanks to computers, people are glued to the TV waiting for the next report. A striking parallel exists for lotto players. Serious lotto players couldn't do what they do today without the modern computer and some serious lotto software.

Serious lotto players use lotto software in the same way the weather forecasters do. For every lottery, a player can create many different bell shaped curves describing various aspects of a lottery's performance. From these curves, the player can make lotto predictions that improve their odds of winning the lotto by avoiding low probability events. This isn't magical or mystical nor is it a closely guarded lotto secret.

For the serious lottery player, making lottery predictions is similar to making weather predictions. Using the lottery's history, the lotto player creates an abbreviated play list that they believe represents the most probable outcome. For example, the player might create a 30 number play list for a 6 out of 49 lottery.

The key here is to build a play list that contains all six winning numbers. This is done by making logical choices based upon examination of the historical record. The basic lotto strategy, in its simplest form, is this. By concentrating his lotto budget on highly probable events, the players can improve their odds of winning the lotto.
