Chinese Herbal Medicine Is The Ancient Cure For Modern Age
Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the primary modalities or treatment methods within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). While Acupuncture was the first Chinese modality to gain wide acceptance in the West, Chinese Herbal Medicine has quickly become one of the most effective and popular therapies. Chinese Herbal Medicine is used as a standalone treatment, and also in conjunction with Acupuncture.
The essence of chinese medicine is about maintaining balance to achieve good health and thus treatment to illnesses is focused on strengthening and revitalizing the key organs to facilitate their proper functioning to achieve good health. As a consequence, Chinese herbal treatment not only requires the patient to drink (often foul-tasting) herbal tea but to also to follow a restricted diet to facilitate the revitalization of the key organs, e.g. it’s no good taking the medicine if you are also taking the poison straight afterwards.
In addition, as the Chinese medical philosophy is based on helping the body to heal itself, the process will be progressive rather than instant gratification, i.e. the longer the illness, ...
... the longer the recovery process. Traditional Chinese medical Theory’s is a complex system of observation, study of vital organs, constitution, symptoms, emotions, and Diagnosis utilizing subjective & objective data. Chinese herbal medicine is carefully evaluated and combined with supportive herbs we call Formulas which then are prescribed to treat the underlying root cause of problems.
The prescription of herbal medicine is traditionally done as a formula of two or more herbs which treat a specific pattern or diagnosis. The herbs work in synergy with one another, and are therefore rarely used alone.
It is a major aspect of traditional Chinese medicine, which focuses on restoring a balance of energy, body, and spirit to maintain health rather than treating a particular disease or medical condition. Unlike modern medicine, CHM is not symptom based, but rather seeks for the underlying conditions which may contribute to the symptoms.
CHM comes in three forms, teas, powders with which you make tea, and pills. The teas are the most flexible and effective, but are usually rather unpleasant to drink. Each formula is actually a group of herbs; perhaps a combination of plants, bark, roots and minerals.
The combination of acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine often accelerates the progress of treatment. Chinese Herbal Medicine differs from other herbal traditions because the herbs are utilized in complex formulas that are formulated for a specific patient and the herbs are very rarely used alone. This practice uses high quality herbs in pill form and granule form that have been screened for impurities.
C.H.M. is still the dominant medical system in China, despite the presence of Western medicine in recent years. At the same time, interest in Chinese Medicine outside of China is at an all-time high – resulting in certain plant species being over-harvested in China to satisfy this growing demand.
Chinese Herbal Medicine is both an ancient and contemporary system of healthcare that is undergoing continual development as regards illness and disease. We use only plant substances – flowers, seeds, roots, bark and leaves.
