The consumption of natural resources in India is much higher than most other countries in the world. The 1.2 billion population of India is the reason for the higher consumption of resources. Due to this, it is imperative for the Indian population to adapt a sustainable standard of living. A lot of attempts are being made on a national level to make a change in the current situation; however, the humongous population makes the task difficult.

The Role of Sustainable Living in the Society

The Indian government has rolled out a lot of initiatives so that the sustainable pattern of living is adapted in the society. There is support from the NGO’s and corporate India too, to make this transformation possible. The Corporate Social Responsibility – (CSR) structure follows a set of
sustainability initiatives to promote the sustainability module, so focus on getting positive results in building a sustainable society.

These students will have the right skill set to become scientists, leaders, policy makers etc who will lead the country and make India a sustainable society

• Funding – The most crucial of all sustainability initiatives is funding.
Research as well as aptitude building requires financial support. Though the Government allots a certain amount of funds towards building a sustainable society, the rest comes from the corporate sector. Companies have their individual sponsorship programs and funding for research and development to create a sustainable society.

These initiatives are extremely important to build a sustainable society. These initiatives rely on each other to get success.

Measuring the Success of a Sustainable Program

Since the CSR sector spends their time and money to draft a sustainable program, they need to know that their efforts are yielding results. To measure the extent of success for their programs and initiatives, they depend on sustainability reporting. As the name suggests, it is a report which ensures that the sustainability goals are met as per plan. The main focus of this report is to ensure that India achieves economic, ecological and social sustainability through the initiatives that are drafted by the CSR. When the sustainability module was adapted by the CSR sector, there was no reporting of this kind.

In order to maintain a transparent outlook and taking the onus for the commitment in this matter, companies started sustainability reporting. This report makes it possible to determine the yield versus the efforts of the CSR in building a sustainable society.
