They try to predict future prices of the stocks based on a study of human behavior as represented on a chart. This is called technical analysis. Further, traders can execute orders in the cash market (actual buying and selling) or, in the futures and options market where they can execute orders for a value of up to 4-5 times the amount of cash available with them by using it as a leverage.
