The Mediterranean is a popular holiday destination. Vacationing in this part of the world will let one experience the beautiful Mediterranean weather, the much-touted healthy cuisine, the famous wines, the incredible beaches, the blue sea, island hopping, and exposure to various cultures within the islands along that strip of sea. Sailing the seas of the Mediterranean will not only let you have that vacationer’s tan, it will also open your mind. Through the course of your vacation, you might come across place names in world history. The area you will be traveling was an important trade route in ancient times. In fact, this area is attributed of utmost importance to the development of ancient western civilization. This is the site of some World War I naval battles. Here you will find names from myth and folklore. Here is the sea where Poseidon reigned. This is the sea where Icarus fell.

The countries in this region are Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Turkey, Gibraltar, Albania, Montenegro, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Libya, Malta, Tunisia, Monaco, Croatia, Slovenia, Cyprus, Syria, Lebanon, Israel, ...
... and Bosnia-Herzegovina. An island hopping vacationer will in fact be traveling three of the world’s continents during his Mediterranean holiday. Europe, Asia, and Africa are the three continents straddling the Mediterranean Sea. Ferry boats can be chartered to take you across popular island destinations. Sardinia, Sicily, Capri, Tunis, Greece, Corsica, and Croatia are just some of the Mediterranean holiday destinations that can be approached through ferry. Some of these ferries will have specific routes such as:

• Spain-Sardinia-Sicily-Tunisia-Malta route
• Italy-Greece-Crete route
• Italy-Croatia route
• Spain-Baleares Islands-Ibiza-Palma route
• Corsica-Sardinia-Algeria-Tunisia-Morocco route

There are many more ferry companies plying the Mediterranean Seas, each one with special offers of their own, each with special tariffs and rates for their passengers, and each one with their own brand of service. There are daily car and foot passenger services, catamaran sails, conventional ferries, high speed ones, even private cruises and yacht charters. Some ferries offer a snack bar, while some have full blown dining for passengers. There are cabins, suites, and other accommodations.

A cursory search on official websites will bring you to information on services, schedules and timetables, routes, fare rates and tariff rates, and reservations. Also useful to find out are the details on the best times for vacationing, the current weather, health and security details, conversions, time zones, customs, languages, cultural and historic sites, and other things to expect in each place.
