It is a cytokine for erythrocyte (red blood cell) precursors in the bone marrow. It also has other known biological function. For example, zyrop plays an important role in the brain’s response to neuronal injury. EPO is also involved in the wound healing process. When EPO is used as a performance enhancing drug, it is classified as an erythropoiesis-stimulating agent (ESA).

Importance of erythropoietin in anemia people with chronic kidney failure :

The erythropoietin is a hematopoietic agent, prescribed for anemia in people with chronic kidney failure. It helps in the formation of red blood cells by the bone marrow. This is a glycoprotein which stimulates red blood cell production. It is produced in the kidney and stimulates the division and differentiation of committed erythroid progenitors in the bone marrow. Red blood cells are produced in the bone marrow.

Composition: Single-dose, preservative-free vial; each 1 ml of solution contains 2000, 3000, 4000, or 10000 units.

Side effect: signs of an allergic reaction, hives difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips tongue, or throat.

Precaution:

Before using this medication if you are allergic to it, or to other drug that cause more red blood cells to be made or to products contain human albumin, or if you have any other allergic. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reaction or other problems. This medication should not be used if you have a certain medical condition. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have uncontrolled high blood pressure or Blood disorders.

Indication :

It is indicated for the treatment of anemia associated with chronic renal failure patients, including patients on dialysis and not on dialysis. It is indicated to elevate or maintain the red blood cell level and to decrease the need for transfusions in these patients. On dialysis patients with symptomatic anemia considered for therapy should have hemoglobin less than 10 g/Dl.
