Why Dental Implants Are So Much Better Than Dentures
Dental implants are just one of the many newer ways to care for teeth. Once the only option was to have a denture or a part plate if only a few teeth were missing; these days you can have a false tooth screwed right into the bone of the jaw. At least, the base for the tooth is implanted into the jawbone and left to heal, then the tooth is screwed into that base giving you the look and feel of a natural tooth.
This procedure is not generally done with all the teeth and is not suitable for everyone. It is a really good option for people who have lost one or several teeth due to an accident and whose other teeth are strong and healthy. You need to be in good health with no gum disease or bone porosity. If you have dentures with a few teeth on them that are uncomfortable or keep dropping down unexpectedly you may be able to have this treatment to replace them.
Most people don’t like to have gaps in their teeth, especially in the front where they are most visible. Having regular, even teeth makes your smile much more attractive; when there are gaps you just don’t want to smile. But with implants the gaps can be ...
... filled in without the need to have a plate in your mouth all the time.
Another dental treatment many people need is root canal treatment. This can enable you to keep a tooth that has a bad infection in the nerve. The tooth itself may still be strong and will remain so once the root is taken out and the infection cleared up. The tooth pulp or nerve must all be removed and the area washed out with antiseptic. A temporary filling is put in while the antiseptic does its work. After several days the dentist will examine the area and put in a permanent filling if all is okay.
With the nerve removed, the tooth will change colour gradually and become a little darker, however that is better than losing the tooth and having a gap. If you were thinking in terms of teeth whitening, Melbourne dentists would tell you that it won’t have any effect on a tooth with no nerve, so to avoid a two-tone effect you may want to have it covered with a dental veneer.
You will need to ask your dentist’s advice on whether this would be a suitable way to go, however the discolouration is very gradual and may not bother you, especially if your other teeth are not supremely white.
