For safe and proper driving the road ahead has to be clearly visible to the driver. In daytime if there is bright sunshine no artificial aid is required. If it is night, overcast, or otherwise dark the use of headlights is necessary. But if the weather deteriorates and it becomes foggy or misty the headlights are of little help. Fog lights have been specifically developed for use under such conditions.

Fog lights are specially designed bright lights that enable the driver to see ahead for a sufficiently long distance, even if it is foggy or misty. These lights are placed just below the car's headlights. Their beam is aimed at a lower level than the low beam headlights. These lights illuminate the road that the car will pass over imminently, without causing any hindrance to the oncoming vehicles. The driver of the car can also see clearly just about far enough to take the car forward at a slow pace. There are also high level fog lights but these have to be used along with specially designed lenses, so that their beam is below the eye level of oncoming drivers.

Having fog lights does not mean you can drive as if ...
... the visibility was very good. This is because fog lights only illuminate the road immediately ahead of your vehicle. They do not clearly illuminate the road as it would be if the visibility was good. They only illuminate the road just ahead of your car because even with fog lights it can be tough to penetrate a thick fog. Therefore the fog lights are mounted in such a manner that at least some road immediately ahead of the car is visible and the driver can proceed forward at a slow pace.

Fog lights are usually yellow or purple in color. Red colored light is least scattered over a long distance and hence it would be ideal, but it is not in use because it is used to indicate a stop signal. Its use may create unnecessary confusion.

Under adverse weather conditions fog lights provide better safety. You can also use them to add style to your car along with other car aftermarket products. You can go to www.ilovebodykits.com know more about the latest fog lights.
