Rencontres d'Arles

One of the oldest and most prestigious events, the Rencontres d’Arles photography festival is held in the picturesque city of Arles, Provence in France. The whole city participates in the festival featuring over 60 exhibitions with medieval churches and former factories also converted into fantastic venues. Attracting more than 70,000 photo enthusiasts, the festival is a convergence point for different forms of photography exploring new techniques and concepts, unveiling unseen works every summer since 1970. The theme for last year delved in the charm of black-and-white photography. Apart from the exhibitions, the cafés and squares of Arles become casual meeting grounds for passionate photographers.

Photo España

Madrid's premier annual photo festival is another celebrated photography forum that showcases excellent works by Spanish and international photographers. Portraying an array of themes from history, art and journalism, the festival allows nearly 600,000 visitors to immerse themselves in the captive images across the city. Paris Photo

The art hub of the world pulses with photographic enthusiasm during Paris Photo, one of the internationally famous photography festivals of France. Emphasizing a diversity of works and artistic cultures, the festival is a confluence of some of the best photography experts. With a lavish hosting at the Grand Palias of Paris, the 2013 edition displayed vivid images with historic and contemporary themes at 135 galleries to more than 50,000 visitors. The photo fest reached across the Atlantic to organize the first American fair at Los Angeles in 2013, drawing more than 13,500 visitors.

Brighton Photo Biennial

Next on the photography festival list by My Photo Sharing Secrets is UK’s famous Brighton Photo Biennial. The largest photography festival in UK with 100,000 visits in 2012 presents the work of international artists as well as exhibits historical work in new contexts. Its fifth season in 2012 carried revolutionary undertones by showcasing the moments of economic and political uncertainty in various parts of the world. Head On Photo Festival

Australia’s largest photo fest and the world’s second largest festival, the Head On Photo Festival is a major platform for diverse genres from photojournalism to commercial and fine art works. Founded in 2010, it includes the most critically acclaimed portrait photography competition in Australia. Spread over 200 events at 100 venues in Sydney, the 2013 edition showcased works of over 900 Australian and international photographers through innovative mediums including even mobile phones and plastic cameras.
