Autopsy Report States Sunanda’s Death To Be Unnatural

Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor’s death had created lot of suspense for the past few days. It was an untimely death of 52 old years Sunanda, a business woman and Indian minister Shashi Tharoor’s wife at Leela Palace, a five star hotel of Delhi. Her body was first discovered by her husband, Union Minister Shashi Tharoor on Friday, January 17 at 8.30pm after he returned back to the hotel after attending his party’s mega meeting. Sunanda’s body was sent for autopsy the very next day and Shashi Tharoor was interrogated by Delhi police officials.

The autopsy report arrived after two days of her death and it carried with it many doubts for the investigation team to be solved. The post mortem report says that Sunanda died due to drug overdose. The report was submitted to Sub-Divisional Magistrate Alok Sharma which stated that with high drug overdose she also had a dozen injury marks on her body that crops up during a scuffle. The autopsy was conducted by a team of three doctors of AIIMS headed by Sudhir K Gupta. This report changed the direction of investigation. ... and thus police investigation started up, stated one of the senior police officials. The case will be probed under inquest proceedings Sec 174CrPC as the SDM has not ordered registration of an FIR in regards to torture for dowry or foul play by any of the family members.

Police investigation is interrupted for the time being as they are to wait for the full toxicology report which confirms the nature and amount of drug or poison in Sunanda’s body. While investigating the hotel room, the cops found two strips of the antidepressant having 15 tablets in each one. The first one was empty and the second one had only three tablets remaining. This brings a clear indication that may be she consumed 27 tablets.

Her body had been cremated after a day of her death at the Lodhi crematorium in South Delhi which is near the couple’s residence in Lodhi Estate. Sunanda’s son and Shashi Tharoor’s step son Shiv Menon was also present during the cremation ceremony. When asked about her mother’s sudden demise he strongly counteracted the assumptions of his mother of committing suicide and stated that his mother was strong enough and would never do anything to take her own life. He even denied on the rumours of Shashi Tharoor having any significant role in her death stating that despite differences both were in love. Many eminent personalities from the political society made it a point to arrive at the venue where Sunanda was being cremated to pay their last respect to the lady. Among them were Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chauhan, Human Resource Development Minister Pallam Raju, Defence Minister A K Anthony, fashion designer Ritu Beri and former chief minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit.

Along with union minister Shashi Tharoor, husband of Sunanda, police interrogated her son Shiv Menon, Sunanda’s father and brother for some help, her driver, personal secretary, housekeeping staffs and also journalist Nalini Singh to whom Sunanda made her last call.
