Technological innovations can have their own boon and bane, and this technological marvel called the internet is no exception to it. Although there’s a slew of benefits we can enjoy from the information superhighway, there are also certain disadvantages when browsing the World Wide Web.

For example, although it’s true that shopping for clothes online is very convenient since you no longer have to leave your home to do it, you can’t actually wear the actual clothes you’re going to buy before paying for it. This means you could end up getting a shirt that’s either too tight or too loose for you. This becomes a bit of an issue if the online store you’ve bought it from doesn’t replace bought items.

The same goes when buying wines online. If you’re not careful enough, you may end up having a bad experience in wine-shopping.

Here are some of the potential pitfalls of purchasing wine bottles via the web so you know exactly what you’re getting into:

Delivery issues – The thing with wines is that the online store may not actually have the bottles you’re ordering ...
... with them. If they’re not readily available, they still have to order them from their distributor or shipped from a warehouse that’s located hundreds of miles away. This means that if you order bottles that are out of stock, you may not be able to get them on the day you want them in your hands. If you’re ordering bottles for, say, a dinner, you have to take this factor into account, which means ordering early to make sure they get to your address in time.

Cluttered websites – Have you ever experienced browsing through a site where there are just so many things going on? Sites that are too messy to look at can give our eyes (and minds) undue stress. There are sites that just ‘screams’ so loud we can’t stand it. They have so much stuff on their pages, from videos to chats to banner ads. The challenge for you as a user is sifting through all the ‘noise’ to get to what you really want.

Availability of items ordered – As it was mentioned earlier here, the nice photos of wine bottles you see may not actually be available. There are ecommerce stores that, not only online wine shops, have a gallery of the products they sell but the items are actually not in their current inventory. Some don’t even indicate that certain items are not available or out of stock. You end up piling items into your virtual shopping cart only to find out when you’re about to pay that some of the items you’ve included are actually not available.

Of course, all of these issues don’t have to discourage you from shopping for wines over the web. There are many web-based wine shops out there where you can buy wine online and enjoy the experience instead of despising it. If you know where to look, you’ll find stores that are not only easy to navigate through, but actually have in stock the items they display on their pages and can deliver them in a timely fashion.
